CNESA Joins Ten International Financial Institutions to Open New Avenues for Chinese Energy Storage Companies in Developing Countries

Recently, the China Energy Storage Alliance (CNESA), together with the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Trade and Development Bank (TDB), the World Bank and the New Development Bank (NDB), jointly organized the Energy Storage Connectivity Investment Conference and industry site visits. Centering on topics such as global storage market development, technological innovation, project investment and commercial application, the event facilitated in-depth exchanges and promoted investment, development and project cooperation between China’s energy storage industry and developing countries around the world.

The three-day event brought together experts from international financial institutions, as well as representatives of energy authorities and power companies, from more than 20 countries and regions including Brazil, Chile, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kenya and Uganda. Leveraging its strengths in industry research and resource integration, CNESA organized company site visits, thematic presentations and matchmaking exchanges, building a platform for international delegates to understand the achievements of China’s energy storage industry and to explore opportunities for technology application and commercial cooperation.

Industry Site Visits: From Wuqing, Tianjin to Fangshan, Beijing — Understanding China’s Storage Manufacturing and Operation Capabilities

As a key session on the first day of the event, CNESA organized and led international delegates to visit the Yichu Shuzhi Energy Group’s energy storage station in Wuqing, Tianjin, and the XYZ Storage Technology campus in Fangshan, Beijing, offering a first-hand look at Chinese companies’ storage manufacturing capabilities and station operation practices.

During the visits, international delegates held in-depth exchanges with the companies on hot topics including overseas business development, energy storage participation in power markets, system operation, grid-forming storage, island microgrids, immersion-cooled storage, storage fire safety technologies, and storage applications for artificial intelligence data centers (AIDC).

The visits not only showcased the achievements of Chinese energy storage companies in technological innovation, system integration and diversified application scenarios, but also created opportunities for both sides to better understand market needs and explore international business cooperation.

Thematic Presentation: The Value, Revenue and Carbon Benefits of Large-Scale Energy Storage in China

During the conference, Ms. Yue Fen, Deputy Secretary-General of CNESA, delivered a keynote speech on “The Value, Revenue and Carbon Benefits of Large-Scale Energy Storage in China.”

Yue Fen outlined the strategic significance of energy storage in the global energy transition, in enhancing power system flexibility and in promoting renewable energy consumption. Drawing on storage developments in key markets, she shared research findings and analytical perspectives on the economic value, market revenue and carbon reduction benefits of large-scale storage.

She also analyzed and looked ahead to the development of new-type storage technologies, the evolution of market mechanisms and future application trends, offering international delegates a professional reference for understanding China’s storage market experience and the comprehensive value of large-scale storage applications.

Industry Dialogue: Nine Chinese Companies Take the Stage to Discuss the Prospects and Direction of China’s Storage Going Global

To further promote exchanges between Chinese energy storage companies and international industry representatives, CNESA invited representatives from Ampace, Trina Solar, Pengcheng Infinite Energy, Guoxia Technology, Megarevo Technology, HiTHIUM, State Power Rixin, Yichu Shuzhi Energy Group and HyperStrong to take part in thematic presentations and roundtable discussions.

Participants held in-depth discussions on global storage market trends, business models in emerging markets, companies’ international strategies, project investment and financing, and storage system operations.

On expanding into international markets, participants stressed that Chinese energy storage companies should further strengthen localization capabilities, improve local production, talent development and long-term service systems, and enhance the full-lifecycle operation and maintenance capabilities of storage stations. At the same time, project development should give integrated consideration to bankability, construction costs and system safety, striking a balance between commercial viability and long-term operational returns.

During the interactive sessions, international delegates also discussed the commercialization prospects of long-duration storage of 10 hours or more, dependence on government subsidies, technical challenges of sodium-ion batteries, storage grid connection and station operation and maintenance. They paid particular attention to how, in the absence of mature electricity spot markets, mechanisms such as capacity compensation, ancillary services and energy shifting can improve project bankability while keeping the impact on end-user electricity prices under control.

Outlook for Cooperation: More Than a Single Event — CNESA Continues to Support the High-Quality “Going Global” of China’s Energy Storage Industry

As the global energy transition continues to advance, differences among countries in power market mechanisms, infrastructure development, project financing and technology application are creating new needs and opportunities for international exchanges and cooperation in the energy storage industry. Through cooperation with the AIIB in activities related to the Energy Storage Conference, the event brought together representatives from the National Energy Commission of Chile, Nigeria’s NISO, Kazakhstan Renewable Energy LLP, the Energy Regulatory Agency of Azerbaijan, the Advisor to the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), Indonesia’s state electricity company PT PLN (Persero), the Land Bank of the Philippines, the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan, the National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC), Sri Lanka’s national power system operator, and the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) of Bangladesh.

This is more than a single event. The 15th Energy Storage International Summit and Exhibition (ESIE 2027) is scheduled for March 16–19, 2027 at the Beijing Capital International Convention and Exhibition Center. With “storage going global” as a core theme, ESIE 2027 will feature an international AIDC storage forum, an international storage matchmaking zone and targeted matchmaking with overseas procurement delegations, continuing to support the high-quality global expansion of China’s energy storage industry.
