CNESA Conducts Site Visit to Hawthorn Pit Benchmark Energy Storage Project in the UK

Recently, a delegation from the China Energy Storage Alliance (CNESA) conducted an on-site inspection of the Hawthorn Pit Energy Storage Project. Recognized as a benchmark case in the UK energy storage sector, this project, developed by Harmony Energy, a UK-based energy storage project operator, boasts a site capacity of 49.9MW/99.8MWh. The complete energy storage system, featuring self-developed battery cells, is supplied by Envision Energy. Since its commissioning in the second quarter of 2024, the project has been in stable operation for nine months, generating multiple revenue streams through participation in the electricity energy market, capacity market, and ancillary services market. Its performance in technological innovation and commercial operations has been particularly impressive. Envision currently has several projects under construction in the UK.

During the visit, CNESA delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with the UK Project Director of Envision Energy, focusing on localized development models for energy storage power stations, their participation in the electricity market, lifecycle operations and maintenance, station safety management, and UK fire safety standards.

The outstanding performance of the Hawthorn Pit project underscores Envision Energy’s leadership in energy storage technology, as well as its deep understanding of the UK’s market mechanisms and regulatory framework. Moving forward, CNESA will leverage its platform advantages to accelerate the global expansion of Chinese energy storage technologies, products, and solutions, contributing China’s expertise to the worldwide green energy transition.
