Empowering Zero-Carbon Industrial Parks and Driving the Green Transition | 200MW/400MWh Huifeng Energy Storage Project in Wuqing, Tianjin Successfully Energized

January 30, Wuqing, Tianjin — As the year draws to a close and a new one begins, a landmark project supporting regional energy transition and green industrial development has reached a major milestone. The 200MW/400MWh Huifeng Energy Storage Power Station in Dongmaquan, Wuqing District, Tianjin, located in the core area of the Wuqing Economic and Technological Development Zone, has successfully completed its first energization. As Tianjin’s first fully developed key grid-side independent energy storage project, the successful energization marks an important step toward strengthening the city’s new-type power system and supporting the development of zero-carbon industrial parks. The project is set to become an efficient “regulator” and “enabler” for the regional energy system.

Strategic Positioning: Building a New Benchmark for Zero-Carbon Industrial Parks in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Region

The Wuqing Huifeng Energy Storage Power Station is a key project in Tianjin, and its successful energization represents an important milestone with strong demonstration value. Located in the heart of an industrial park, the project covers approximately 20,000 square meters, with a rated power of 200MW and an energy storage capacity of 400MWh. The successful energization confirms that major electrical systems, including the main transformer and high-voltage switchgear, have been successfully connected to the Tianjin power grid. Once fully operational, the project will actively participate in key grid services including frequency regulation, peak shaving, and energy storage capacity leasing for renewable energy projects. It will significantly enhance grid stability, emergency power supply capabilities, and renewable energy integration—effectively serving as a large-scale green energy dispatch center for the industrial park.

Dispatch and Monitoring Data Dashboard

Overcoming Challenges: A Model of Efficient Integration Under Complex Site Conditions

The successful first energization reflects the project team’s ability to overcome multiple technical and construction challenges through technological innovation and meticulous project management.

Compact design and efficient project management:
Faced with limited space and complex site conditions within the industrial park, the project team optimized the site layout and construction processes to efficiently integrate 80 × 5MWh battery energy storage containers, 40 integrated PCS and step-up transformer units, as well as the complete step-up and power distribution infrastructure within a constrained footprint. This demonstrates strong capabilities in engineering integration and on-site project management.

Systematic integration and rapid deployment:
The project adopts an advanced, standardized and modular energy storage system solution, significantly shortening the construction period while ensuring high-quality delivery according to schedule. High-performance core equipment enables fast system response and reliable operation.

Smart operation and coordinated implementation:
An intelligent monitoring, operation and maintenance system enables efficient power station management. Supported by technological and management innovation, as well as close coordination between government authorities and the project team, the project successfully overcame constraints associated with construction in a complex urban environment. It establishes a new benchmark for energy storage development in densely developed areas and for the construction of regional new-type power systems.

Diversified Value: An Innovative Business Model to Unlock the Energy Storage Ecosystem

Once operational, the power station will implement a diversified business model combining fixed returns, market-based revenues and value-added services. Through capacity leasing, the project will help nearby renewable energy facilities meet energy storage requirements and mitigate fluctuations in renewable power output. By participating in the electricity spot market and providing ancillary services such as frequency regulation, the project will generate additional market-based revenues. At the same time, it will support electricity consumption within the industrial park by providing peak shaving and load shifting, helping reduce end-user energy costs. Together, these revenue streams create an open ecosystem designed to deliver shared value for investors, grid operators, renewable energy companies, industrial parks and the broader community.

Green Contribution: Significant Emissions Reductions in Support of China’s Dual-Carbon Goals

The power station is expected to deliver substantial environmental benefits. It is projected to provide approximately 90 million kWh of peak-shaving electricity annually, equivalent to saving approximately 37,000 tonnes of standard coal, planting 500,000 trees, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 100,000 tonnes per year. Stable operation of the project will further increase the utilization of renewable energy in the region and reduce wind and solar curtailment, providing a large-scale practical example of how energy storage can support Tianjin’s energy transition and contribute to China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality (“dual-carbon”) goals.

Looking Ahead: Advancing the High-Quality Development of the Energy Storage Industry

The successful first energization of the Wuqing Dongmaquan project provides a strong demonstration of Yichu Digital Energy Group’s full-scenario smart energy storage solutions.
