Fluence Launches 7.5 MWh Modular AC-Based BESS Platform

Fluence Energy, a U.S.-based company, has introduced its latest grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) called Smartstack. This innovative platform offers 7.5 MWh of energy storage and features a modular design that sets it apart from the industry's standard 20-foot container systems.

The system incorporates 314 Ah cells and boasts a patent-pending architecture that splits the system into more easily transportable units, enhancing logistics and maintenance. With this design, Fluence addresses the challenges posed by high-capacity cells, particularly in Europe where road vehicle weight limits of 40 tons are common in many countries.

Additionally, the Smartstack platform is configurable for storage durations ranging from two to eight hours, catering to various grid-scale energy storage needs while maintaining high energy density.
